4K Program

We partner with three local daycares and preschools to offer our community four-year-old kindergarten or 4K. 4K is a play-based program designed to nurture social, emotional, and early academic skills. 4K in Elkhorn is a half-day program running five days a week.

AM Session 8:35-11:20 a.m.
PM Session 12:30-3:15 p.m.

To enroll in 4K, your student must be four years old on or before September 1 of the upcoming school year. Enrollment takes place online beginning in February. Non-residents are also welcome to enroll in 4K in the Elkhorn Area School District but must complete an Open Enrollment application between February and April. We announce 4K placements in June.

We look forward to meeting you and your student.

4K Centers

4K Centers, like EASD elementary schools, are assigned by district Attendance Centers. Lakeland's Little Learners is the 4K Center for Jackson Elementary School, Kiddie Kottage Learning Academy (formerly TLC) is the 4K Center for Tibbets Elementary School, and Step Ahead Preschool is the 4K Center for West Side Elementary School.

You may request a 4K Center outside of your district Attendance Center, as well as a preferred class time (AM or PM). If you request a 4K Center outside of your district Attendance Center, you will be responsible for transporting your student to and from school each day. Busing is only available to students attending 4K within their designated Attendance Center

4K Busing

Busing is available for all 4K students attending class at their designated Attendance Center 4K Center. 4K busing is a door-to-door service. A legal guardian/caregiver must be outside to see their student on-to and off-of the bus each day. If you elect to attend a 4K Center outside of your designated Attendance Center, you will be responsible for transporting your student to and from school each day.

If you are participating in wraparound care, busing is only available for students attending their 4K Center during school hours (8:35 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.). If you plan on your student arriving earlier or staying later than school hours, you will be responsible for your own transportation.

The Elkhorn Area School District contracts with Durham School Services to provide bus transportation to students. Specific questions about busing can be addressed with Durham directly. Please contact them at 262-723-7667 with any questions.

Additional transportation information can be found on our K-12 Busing page.

Good to Know

The State of Wisconsin requires all daycare centers to have a current physical exam and immunization records on hand for each child in attendance. Your 4K student's immunization records are required within 30 days of their first day of school, and their physical exam form is required within their first 90 days of school.

Dental and vision exam forms are requested by the school district but not required. The District Nurse will perform a hearing and vision screening on all four-year-old kindergarten students in the fall. Families will be notified before the screening should they wish to opt-out.
